Granite City's Greatest Hits
Old Aberdeen, Aberdeen Beach & Harbour
You will be collected from a location of your choice aboard one of our executive vehicles where our local driver will transport you to Old Aberdeen where you can visit the impressive Powis Gates and the beautiful Kings College. Built in the 15th century, Kings College was the first University in Aberdeen, which upon gaining its Royal Charter, gave it equal status to that of Scotland’s two existing Universities at Glasgow and St Andrews.
One of the more famous buildings on the campus is the Kings College Chapel. Particularly notable within the chapel are the choir stalls and rood screen, which date back to around 1509. These form the most complete mediaeval church interior in Scotland.
From here, you will be taken to Marischal College where you will see the second biggest granite building in the world!
Just across the road you can also visit Provost Skene House. Built in the 15th century, it was bought by Sir George Skene who was Provost of the city of Aberdeen from 1676 to 1685.
The next part of the trip will take in Aberdeen Beach to show you why we are the ‘Silver City with the Golden Sands’.
From here we will take you along to Aberdeen Harbour, which is one of the longest established ports in the UK. By 1933, Aberdeen was Scotland’s top fishing Port and was also home to Hall Russell & Co Shipbuilders who had built Japan's first warship the ‘Jho Sho Maru’, a deal which derived between Thomas Blake Glover and the Japanese Government. Today however, the Harbour mainly services North Sea Oil & Gas Platforms as well as Cruise Liners.
Whilst at the Harbour, why not grab some lunch at the city famous ‘Silver Darling Restaurant’ where you can dine on locally caught seafood whilst enjoying the view of ships coming and going.
The day will end with a short drive up to ‘Torry Battery’. This former artillery battery has overlooked the Harbour since 1860 and was last used defensively in WWII. Decommissioned in 1956, the Torry Battery is now an ideal place for Dolphin watching as well as extensive views across the city and beachfront.
